Maracaibo Digital
Board game digital adaptation | Spiralburst Studio
Maracaibo is a strategy board game for 1-4 players, designed by Alexander Pfister. It is ranked in the top 100 board games of all time.
We adapted this 2+ hour tabletop affair into Maracaibo Digital for iOS and Android in 2021. Due to the complexity and information density of this game, adapting it to a phone screen proved to be a fascinating design challenge
Reviews of the App Design
"The physical game’s implementation in digital form is nothing short of excellent. All of the information you need is always front and center. Focusing on specific cards, or parts of the board, or grabbing information from the manual...all of it is so easy and so accessible. The graphics are excellent and everything you remember from the board state to the card art is perfect in this digital version. The one thing I always hate when I play the physical form: do I have the right goods/items when I need to stop at a city location? That’s all tracked for you in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen."
"When it comes to presentation the app version of Maracaibo does a great job of porting the look and feel of the game to your device maintaining the artwork and design from the physical version while managing to keep all of the information you need within a click away without making the board feel cluttered."

"Maracaibo has a massive amount of information players need access to throughout the game. Multiple different tracks and cards really hog table space. I’m very happy to report that the digital version does a fantastic job of fitting everything you need onto your phone screen. It’s truly an impressive feat. Most items have their own sub-menu you can access via click, but a surprising amount is viewable from the default board view.”
