AI Coach

LLM-Powered Leadership Coach for FranklinCovey | 2024

I set out to design an actually useful LLM-powered tool for FranklinCovey learners, capitalizing on our library of thousands of learning resources based on decades of research & development.

We launched a beta with typical useful summary features and a more unique “practice partner” experience for practicing tough work conversations. I’m working on a blog about my design process to release at our full launch.

Sometimes learners have a pressing problem they want help with, but other times they just have a few minutes to learn. We anchored the flows around these two main mental models.

My design iteration focused on how to help learners discover the most useful capabilities of the AI coach without slowing them down too much. We provide “suggested responses” throughout each flow to help the learner find what they’re looking for without having to do the work of prompt engineering.

For the practice scenarios, I drew inspiration from Maggie Appleton’s “Daemons” to have learners set the “personality” of the manager/direct report/etc. they want to practice talking to.
