LLM-Powered Leadership Coach for FranklinCovey | 2024
FranklinCovey has a robust library of leadership learning resources based on decades of research & development. I set out to capitalize on this valuable training data and create an interactive LLM-powered experience to help learners tackle their most pressing challenges at work.
We recently launched a beta with 200+ client organizations that shows promising early engagement results. Learners gravitate towards the “practice partner” feature I designed that allows them to practice difficult work conversations with a character they specify to replicate the person they will actually be talking to.

Sometimes learners have a pressing problem they want help with, but other times they just have a few minutes to learn. We anchored the flows around these two main mental models.
My design iteration focused on how to help learners discover the most useful capabilities of the AI coach without slowing them down too much. We provide suggested responses throughout each flow to help the learner find what they’re looking for without having to do the work of prompt engineering.
For the practice scenarios, I drew inspiration from Maggie Appleton’s “Daemons” to have learners set the “personality” of the manager/direct report/etc. they want to practice talking to.
